Romanian chemical engineer who doesn’t believe in evolutionism proposed for research minister

University professor Nicolae Hurduc, a chemical engineer and the dean of the Chemical Engineering and Environment Protection Faculty of the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University in Iasi, is the Government’s proposal to take over as research minister, prime minister Viorica Dancila announced on Thursday, October 25.

Nicolae Hurduc has been a university professor for 17 years and has a Ph.D. in Chemistry. He has over 150 published articles in various magazines and is a member in several international organizations, including the American Chemical Society and the Royal Society of Chemistry. He is also one of Romania’s three representatives at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

However, the media reported that he also has some controversial views. In an interview he gave a local publication from Iasi, he was quoted as saying that he doesn’t believe in evolutionism because he can’t accept than humans come from monkeys.

“There’s a theory of parallel worlds, which says we may come from the future. To me, this idea sounds more interesting,” he said in the interview he gave to Ziarul de Iasi.
