RO Govt. not to open indoor restaurants before infection rate drops

06 August 2020

Romania's prime minister Ludovic Orban will not discuss reopening indoor restaurants before the coronavirus infection rate decreases, head of the HORA association in HoReCa industry, Daniel Mischie, said after meeting Government officials including the head of the Executive.

He urged the operators in the industry and the population to observe the authorities' sanitary recommendations.

But he also warned that there could be no economic growth without the HoReCa sector, which he estimates at 5.1% of the national GDP.

"The prime minister must take steps to reopen restaurants," Mischie said, quoted by Digi24.ro.

He explained to the prime minister that restaurants in other European countries have opened with no negative consequences.

"All of the operators' (cash) reserves have come to an end, and we no longer have the resources to support this activity," Mischie concluded.
