Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein give Romania EUR 8 mln for energy efficiency

Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein will donate EUR 8 million to Romania to finance energy efficiency programs aiming to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.

“The donor states, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, concluded with Romania the Memorandum of Understanding which designates the Ministry of Economy as Program Operator for the “Energy Efficiency” program with MF SEE financing, approved on October 1, 2013,” reads a statement of the Romanian Ministry of Economy.

The program’s objective is to improve energy efficiency in industry, mainly polluting industries with high energy consumption.

The funds will cover facility and equipment upgrade for an estimated number of 20 small and medium enterprises SMEs in the industry, to reduce energy consumption, according to the Ministry of Economy’s statement.

The total value of the program is of some EUR 9.4 million. The program started in 2013 and it will end in 2016.
