The number of new companies with foreign capital that were set up in the first eight months of 2016 dropped by 12.2% compared to the same period last year, reaching 3,526, according to the Trade Registry’s Office (ONRC).

The total share capital of the 3,526 companies amounted to USD 29.8 million. Most companies were registered in March, namely 509, down 17.7% compared to the same month last year.

At the end of August, the number of companies with foreign capital in Romania amounted to 207,992. The value of their share capital amounted to over EUR 43.7 billion.

In 2015, Romania recorded the lowest number of newly registered firms with foreign capital in the last 18 years. Last year, 5,831 such companies were established, compared to 6,219 in 2014.
