Number of cars in Romania, up to 5.4 million
Romania's car park grew last year by 1.8 percent, to more than 5.42 million vehicles, including 4.3 million passenger cars, 6.4 percent higher than in 2009, according to the data of the Interior Ministry's Driving License and Vehicle Registration Department.
More than half of vehicles use petrol engines. By age, most vehicles, almost 1.3 million, were between six and ten years old; 1.1 million were between three and five years old, and almost 640,000 were less than two years old. There were 932,000 vehicles older than 20 years.
The majority of vehicles, 1.17 million, were registered in Bucharest, followed by Timis County, with more than 203,000 units, and Cluj County, with more than 202,000 units. The fewest vehicles were registered in Tulcea County - 40,500 units.
