Number of tourists in Romanian hotels, up by 5.4% in the first five months
Over 4 million tourists checked into local hotels in the first five months of this year, up by 5.4% compared to the same period of 2017.
The number of Romanian tourists went up by 4.8%, to 3.07 million, while the number of foreign tourists increased by 7.3%, to 980,000.
In May, the number of foreign tourists increased by 8.7%, reaching 287,000, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS), based on information provided by local hotels and guest houses.
Meanwhile, some 982,000 foreigners entered Romania in May, down by 8.1% compared to May 2017, according to data from the Border Police. Some 30% of the foreigners who entered Romania in May were Hungarians and 25% were Bulgarians, followed by Germans (9.2%), Italians (7.3%) and Poles (4.7%).
