The number of tourists in Romania increased by 10.5% year-on-year in the first 11 months of 2016, to 10.2 million, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The number of Romanian tourists saw a similar increase (10.5%) in this period, to some 7.87 million, representing 77.2% of the total. Meanwhile, the number of foreign tourists increased by 10.6%, to over 2.32 million, with most of them coming from European states.

Most of the foreign tourists who arrived in Romania between January and November 2016 came from Germany (267,496), Israel (231,808), and Italy (217,313).

In November, the number of tourists increased by 6.3% year-on-year, to nearly 770,000. Most of them, namely 602,500 were Romanians (up 5.9%), with the rest of 167,200 being foreign tourists (up 8.1%).

The overnight stays totaled 1.65 million in November, the number being slightly higher than the one registered in the same month the previous year.
