The number of tourists in Romania continued to rise in August and was 10% higher than in the same month of 2015, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The growth pace in August was higher than the one in July, when the number of tourists in Romania advanced by 9.4% year-on-year. The increase was mainly supported by Romanian tourists.

In total, some 1.57 million tourists checked into local hotels and guest houses in August. About 1.28 million were Romanians, with a share of 81.3% of the total, whereas the rest of 293,400 were foreign tourists.

The number of Romanian tourists went up by 11.5% over August 2015 whereas the number of foreign tourists only rose by 6.9%. compared to the same period in 2015.

In total, the number of tourists amounted to 7.47 million in the first eight months of the year, up 11% over the same period in 2015. The number of foreign tourists reached 1.66 million in this period, up 9.9% year-on-year.
