Number of TV subscribers reaches 7.2 mln in Romania

The number of subscribers to paid TV services in Romania reached 7.2 million at the end of June 2015, up 5% compared to June 2015.

Some 4.6 million are cable subscribers whereas 2.4 million watch TV via satellite, said Catalin Marinescu, president of the National Communications Authority (ANCOM).

About 4.3 million TV service subscribers lived in urban areas whereas 2.9 million lived in villages. In the cities, three-quarters of the subscribers use cable TV services while in the rural areas the majority of subscribers use satellite TV services (DTH). Some 89,000 people used IP TV services.

The penetration rate of audio-visual services among the Romanians households reached almost 96%.

Almost half of Romania’s population, or 48%, spends between two and three hours per day watching TV during weekdays. In the weekends, the percentage drops to 31%, according to the results of a survey presented by Mihai Ursoi, general manager of Astra Romania, Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova.

Some 35% of Romania’s households have two TVs whereas 20% of the total number of households own only one TV set.
