OMV Petrom Marketing loses trial with Romania's Competition Council
Fuel retailer OMV Petrom Marketing, which is part of OMV Petrom group, lost the trial with the Romanian Competition Council.
The company had challenged a EUR 30.6 million fine it got from the Competition Council in 2011. The High Court of Justice and Cassation, however, has decided that the company should pay a smaller fine of EUR 24.6 million.
OMV Petrom Marketing, which used to operate the OMV fuel station network, before taking over Petrom’s network as well, was found guilty of participating in a cartel agreement, along with other companies in the fuel market, according to the Competition Council.
The competition authority fined six fuel retailers with a total of EUR 205 million. OMV Petrom got the biggest fine, of EUR 82 million. OMV Petrom also challenged the sanction and the trial is still ongoing.
