One in eight small and medium-sized firms in Romania innovate
Only 13% of the companies in Romania innovated between 2012 and 2014. The percentage of innovative firms declined by 7.9 percentage points compared to the period 2010-2012, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The share of innovative small and medium enterprises is half compared to the share of big companies that innovate, 12.2% compared to 26.9%. Both shares were significantly lower in 2012-2014 compared to 2010-2012.
Some 332 out of 1,232 large companies came up with some innovation in the analyzed period. Out of almost 27,200 small and medium-sized companies, only some 3,300 were innovative, according to the INS.
These innovations include new products and services, new operational processes, and new marketing methods.
