One in three Romanian children is poor
One in three Romanian children is poor, despite having parents who work, and one in five children is poor, even if parents work more than 80 percent of their active time, according to the National Strategy to Protect and Promote Children Rights, cited by local Mediafax.
The child poverty rate in households where adults work increased from 29.1%in 2007 to 32.6%in 2012, reads the strategy.
The risk of relative poverty among working adults who have children is more than double in Romania compared to the EU27, namely 23.4% versus 11.5% in 2012.
More than half - 52.2% - of Romanian children are at risk of poverty or social exclusion, the second highest level in the EU27, after Bulgaria.
