Expirat (Expired), one of the oldest clubs in Bucharest, will close down after the tragedy on Friday night in club Colectiv, where a fire killed 30 people and injured close to 150 others.

„I resign. The Expirat club in Bucharest will close,” said local entrepreneur Andrei Sosa in a Facebook post that is also a confession.

„I apologise and I take on me the fact that since 2003 I’ve put thousands of lives in danger. Every weekend, sometimes even during the weekdays,” Sosa’s post reads.

He admits to having used various electrical improvisations and to having had many failures.

„I’m friends with one of the owners of Colectiv. I know he’s going to get many years in prison. They should have taken me as well,” Sosa goes on.

The Romanian prosecutors have started an investigation on the tragedy in club Colectiv. They collected documents from the Bucharest District 4 City Hall and the Territorial Labor Office, which had authorised the club to function.

According to District 4 City Hall representatives, the club had been licensed based on a statement of its owners which said that it could take in 80 people seated. There were more than 400 people in the club on Friday night for a concert.

The club went on fire after the soundproofing insulation caught fire from the pyrotechnic materials used during the concert. The fire quicly spread to the roof, which was also insulated.

According to the firm that installed the soundproofing insulation, the club’s owners didn’t want to install fireproof insulation because of the higher costs.
