Romanian prosecutors have started searches at 49 subsidiaries and at the headquarters of an insurance company, in an investigation involving alleged abuse of office and forgery.

According to Mediafax, the investigations target insurance firm Omniasig.

The searches are conducted by 100 officers from the Fraud Investigation Squad, with support from the Romanian Intelligence Service.

Omniasig VIG underwrote insurance premiums of RON 881.1 million (EUR 199 million) in 2013, down 14.2 percent year-on-year, due to lower revenues from RCA and CASCO car insurance policies. Omniasig is part of Austrian Vienna Insurance Group.
