Online tax payment system in Romania sees 215% increase in transactions

07 April 2017

The portal Ghiseul.ro, managed by the Romanian Agency for Digital Agenda (AADR), recorded an advance of 215% in the number of transactions in the first three months of this year compared to the same period last year, to 144,000.

The value of taxes paid via this platform went up by 258% year-on-year to RON 46.9 million (EUR 10.3 million), reports local News.ro. The platform could reach 500,000 users by the end of this year.

Romanian taxpayers, both individuals and companies, have been able to pay online the taxes they owe to the tax authority ANAF via Ghiseul.ro starting December last year. Taxpayers can pay online the income tax on wages and revenues from the use of goods, dividends, awards or from intellectual property rights.

The social contributions as well as judicial fines can also be paid online via Ghiseul.ro. Moreover, taxes owed to local authorities can also be paid via this platform.

Reducing bureaucracy was one of the main priorities of the former technocrat government. The new PSD-ALDE government promised that any tax that can’t be paid online would be eliminated.
