Romania’s Oradea Airport resumes flights
Bihor County Council announced that passenger flights at Oradea Airport in northwest Romania resumed this past Sunday.
Flight operations were suspended between May 2 and May 15 due to work on the taxiway connecting the airport runway to the future cargo terminal. According to the quoted source, more than 60 meters of the new taxiway's 276 meters have been completed.
"In the last two weeks, work has been done at a very fast pace so that we can reopen the airport for passengers. Work at the taxiway will continue in the coming period, and then we'll start working on the terminal itself," said Călin Gal, vice-president of the Bihor County Council.
The airport in Oradea reopened with a first domestic flight of the local company Tarom. According to the flight schedule available on the airport's website, other domestic and international flights are set to depart from Oradea this month, including to destinations such as London, Düsseldorf, or Milan. Moreover, Bihon.ro reported that several summer charter flights would be available from Oradea Airport to destinations in Greece, Turkey, and Egypt.
Meanwhile, CTP Romania will work on the airport's cargo terminal. Spreading over a plot of land of 14.4 hectares, the industrial project "CTPark Oradea Cargo Terminal" will have a total area of 67,776 sqm and include three buildings and the necessary airport infrastructure.
Once completed, the new cargo terminal will have the capacity to process four Category C aircraft simultaneously, from the Airbus 320 or Boeing 737 family.
According to Bihor County Council, CTP Romania will invest some EUR 32 million in the next two years to materialize the project at Oradea Airport.
