Orange opens digital education hub in Romania

28 June 2023

Orange Foundation inaugurated a digital center in Romania, aimed at offering education programs to approximately 2,000 beneficiaries annually. These target teenagers passionate about technology, young people looking for a job, or adults who want a professional conversion with the help of digital skills.

Orange Group granted funding of over EUR 800,000 to set up the new Orange Digital Center in Romania. The funds have been used to bring modern equipment to the hub and attract specialized trainers.

Orange Digital Center Romania adds to the portfolio of existing centers that have been opened in other countries within the Orange Group, including Belgium, Poland, Spain, Moldova and France, as well as in Africa and the Middle East. With a total of 21 centers opened so far, the group’s goal is to increase the number to 25 by 2025.

Several initiatives run under the umbrella of the hub, such as Coding School – which brings together programs for the development of digital skills, and programs with tradition like Solidarity FabLab and the SuperCoders digital education competition.

The Orange Digital Center curriculum currently includes 28 free courses, including Google workspace, Graphic & video design, Frontend development programming, Data analytics & Business intelligence, Robotic process automation, and eCommerce basics, but also Woodworking, Metal fabrication, Laser machining, Botanical design or Vocational discovery.

In addition, two courses dedicated to people with visual impairments, developed with the help of partners AMAIS and the Association for Urban Development, will also be held at the Orange Digital Center.

With a capacity of approximately 2,000 beneficiaries annually, the training programs are open to the general public, but people in difficult situations will have priority, the company said.

The new Orange Digital Center operates within Nod Makerspace in Bucharest. The space covers 360 square meters, with 4 distinct rooms and a coworking space, offering digital product prototyping and testing facilities, as well as product manufacturing or metal and woodworking workshops.
