Orange expands 4G coverage to all seaside resorts in Romania

10 June 2014

Telecom operator Orange Romania has expanded its 4G coverage to all seaside resorts in Romania, according to the company.

Orange’s investment in a 4G network in this area was triggered by significant increases in the use of mobile Internet.

“Tourists who go to the seaside are more and more using their mobile phones to upload photos and check the news on social networks, to access different apps, to watch videos and get informed. Last year, the use of mobile Internet in the Orange network increased by 70 percent in this area, during the peak season, compared to the same period in 2012,” reads a statement of the company.

The average download speed can go up to 80 Mpbs, depending on the subscription and options chosen by the customers. Those who have devices compatible with this technology, can test the service for free for 90 days.

The 4G speed is available for all Orange clients, including those who use PrePaid cards.

Orange Romania’s revenues were up 4.9 percent in the first quarter of the year, to EUR 230 million, on a comparable basis, the company announced. End-March 2014, Orange has 10.3 million clients in Romania, measured as active SIMs, up from 10.2 million at the end of 2013.

Mobile internet traffic was up 44 percent, as more and more clients started using smartphones to surf the net, while smartphone sales advanced by 45 percent.
