Orange Romania, the biggest telecom operator on the local market, reached a turnover of EUR 270 million in the first quarter of this year, up by 11.1% compared to the same period of 2017.

The growth was mainly driven by the increase in mobile data use, smartphone sales and converged services, the company announced.

However, the company’s client base went down by about 170,000 in the first quarter, reaching 10.449 million customers at the end of March.

Over 3.3 million Orange clients used 4G services at the end of March, up 40% compared to March 2017. The company’s 4G network covered 93.6% of the country’s population. The data traffic in Orange’s network went up by 85% versus the first three months of 2017 while the 4G traffic tripled.

The company also increased the number of Orange Home TV clients by 22% compared to March 2017, to 418,000, and the number of broadband fixed internet clients by 65%, to 210,000.

About 95,000 clients signed for fixed-mobile service packages in the first quarter, up six times compared to the same period of 2017.
