Organ donation refusal rate in Romania, one of the lowest in Europe

21 April 2015

The organ donation refusal rate is less than 20% in Romania, one of the lowest figures in Europe, according to national transplant coordinator Victor Zota. So far, 4,000 lives have been saved in Romania through organ donations actions, including very young children, he added, cited by local Mediafax.

The National Transplant Agency ANT had over 700 brain-dead donors and about 500 living donors. Thousands of other patients are on a waiting list for a transplant, said Zota.

Last year,  311 renal transplants, four heart transplants, 122 liver transplants, six pancreas transplants and 100 cornea transplants were performed in Romania.

The country celebrated the National Transplant Day on April 15.
