Hotels and other tourist facilities recorded in the first quarter of the year 1.61 million arrivals, up 12.6% year-on-year.

Foreign tourists accounted for 22% of the arrivals, up 15.2% year-on-year, according to the National Institute of Statistics.

Romanians tourists accounted for 1.25 million of the arrivals, up 11.9%.

Europeans had the biggest share of foreign tourist arrivals, with 76.8% (273,400), up 10.6% over the first quarter in 2014.

Some 43,900 of the foreign tourist arrivals were from Asia, up 38.9%, 22,500 were from North America, up 22.3%.  Meanwhile, 2,600 were from South America, up 4% and 2,900 from Africa, down 9.4%.

Most foreign tourists were from Italy (41,600 arrivals), Germany (38,400), Israel (28,900), France (24,500) and UK (22,800).
