06 November 2013

More than 10,000 members of the Romanian Federation of Trade Unions of Education (FSLI) are expected to protest today (November 6) in Bucharest, their main request being the allocation of six percent of GDP to education in 2014.

The protest is scheduled to take place in Romania’s capital until 15:30. According to the Bucharest Traffic Brigade, a rally is planned to take place in Piata Victoriei until 13:00.

After that hour, the protestors are expected to march following the route Piata Victoriei - Calea Victoriei - Natiunile Unite bridge - Natiunile Unite boulevard - Libertatii boulevard - Piata Constitutiei.

“During the march, the traffic will be restricted on that route and the adjacent streets,” reads a statement of the Traffic Brigade.

Drivers are asked to drive carefully in this area and to respect the police’s indications, as well as the traffic signs and road markings.

According to FSLI president Simion Hancescu, quoted by local news agency Mediafax, the teachers will be forced to close schools if their “ample action” will be ignored.
