Over 500 participants at Via Maria Theresia Marathon, Raiffeisen Bank Romania CEO among runners

Over 500 people, including athletes, volunteers and spectators, participated at the first edition of Via Maria Theresia Marathon organized on August 16 in Calimani Mountains in Romania. The event inaugurated the Maria Theresia historical road, restored by Tasuleasa Social association, with the support of its partner Raiffeisen Bank and the help of hundreds of volunteers.

Over 100 half-marathon runners, 62 marathon runners and 39 bikers participated at the marathon. Steven Van Groningen, president and CEO of Raiffeisen Bank, was one of the runners in the half-marathon category. Romanian actor Marcel Iures, cyclist Eduard Novak, the Minister delegate for Waters Doina Pana and local authorities also attended the event.

Via Maria Theresia is a historical road, located in the Calimani Mountains. It was built with the purpose of supplying the Austro-Hungarian frontier guards with food and ammunition, hundreds of years ago.
