Over 50,000 Romanians are expected to go to the seaside for the May 1 mini vacation this year, with Mamaia and Vama Veche among most popular resorts, according to tourism authorities and employers.

“80 percent of the accommodation places in Mamaia resort were already sold for the May 1 mini-break. The seaside is ready to welcome tourists and the hotels, except those under construction, will be opened on May 1,” Mirela Matichescu, vice-president of the National Tourism Authority (ANT), told local Mediafax.

Representatives of tourism authorities and employers estimate, based on bookings, that over 50,000 tourists will arrive at the seaside for the May 1 holiday, most of them going to Mamaia, Vama Veche and Costinesti.

According to Matichescu, the large number of tourists is also influenced by the government’s decision to also grant Friday, May 2, as a day off for state employees, resulting in a total of four days off.
