Over 90,000 people visit international book fair in Bucharest, where 1 million books were on sale

The number of people who visited Bookfest - the international book fair organized in Bucharest between May 29 and June 2 - amounted to over 90,000 by Sunday, at 16:00, according to Bookfest director Mihai Mitrica, quoted by local news agency Mediafax. However, the organizers expected some 100,000 visitors by the end of the festival.

The nearly 200 participating publishers brought around one million books to this year’s Bookfest festival in Bucharest. The book fair ended on Sunday, at 20:00.

Romanian writers Neagu Djuvara, Lucian Boia, Radu Beligan, Emil Hurezeanu, Lucian Croitoru were just some of the personalities in attendance at Bookfest 2013. Three countries were this year’s joint guests of honor, namely Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The first Bookfest edition was organized in 2006 and the event’s partner is the Romanian Ministry of Culture.
