Owner of Romanian transport company Edy Spedition dies in car crash

Alin Popa, the owner of Romanian transport company Edy Spedition, died in a car accident on Wednesday in Timis county. He was driving a Mercedes car that hit full front a Macedonian truck on the other side of the road.
Popa, 41, has founded and was running Edy Spedition, the largest transport company in Romania, with a fleet of 1,000 trucks.
His wealth is estimated at some EUR 20-21 million, according to the 2011 Forbes ranking. He created Edy Spedition 20 years ago, first naming the group Alin Trans. One of the group's first contracts was with Coca – Cola in the early 90s.
In 2005, the investment manager Axxess Capital, which runs Romanian-American Enterprise Fund and Balkan Accession Fund invested in the company.
The group now has 1,500 employees and in 2010 it posted a turnover of EUR 119 million.
