About Dr. Oz
Mehmet Cengiz Oz was born on June 11 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, and at age 7 decided to become a doctor, inspired by the example of his father who was surgeon at Wilmington Medical Center. After graduating from Harvard University, he obained an MBA (Master of Business Administration) degree in the Wharton School and an MD (Medicinae Baccalaureus) at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, proving himself that he can be an exceptional surgeon and he became one of the best specialists in heart replacement surgery. In 1994 Oz founded the Institute of Cardiovascular Institute and Complementary Medicine Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, which he directs and he is also the vice-president and teacher at the Department of Surgery at Columbia University.Together with his wife, Lisa, he wrote and published, in 1998, the book 'Healing from the Heart: A Leading Surgeon Combines Eastern and Western Traditions to Create the Medicine of the Future'.
The desire to do more for people made dr.Oz search alternative practices for already existing treatments, which he successfully combined in a TV show.
His first television show called Second Opinion with Dr. Oz, which he created with his wife in 2003, lasted only one season, but had guests like Charlie Sheen, Patti LaBelle, Quincy Jones and Oprah Winfrey. He has developed an exceptional working relationship with Oprah Winfrey, and she began to call him frequently in the series of TV show 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' and the radio show series 'Oprah & Friends'. Oz began publishing the book series 'YOU', which became a bestseller throughout the country and he also started writing articles in a column in Esquire magazine.
In 2009, following the success of Oprah's shows, she offered as co-producer of the televised series, The Dr. Oz Show. The show brought the doctor three consecutive Emmy awards and currently enjoys a huge rating. Dr. Oz is himself an example to follow, being a loving husband and father. He has four children and his youngest daughter, Daphne, began to follow his footsteps as a TV host and writer. Esquire magazine ranked Dr. Oz in the top 75 most influential people of the 21st century, and Time magazine ranked Oz at 44th on its list of the "100 Most Influential People in 2008".
