Romanians made online purchases of over RON 1.9 billion (EUR 417 million) between April last year and March 2017 via PayU Romania, up 61% year-on-year.

Daily online payments via PayU Romania exceeded RON 5.2 million (EUR 1.1 million) during this period.

In the last financial year, the online payments in the PayU system had the best evolution in the last 12 years, said the PayU Romania CEO Marius Costin. The average value of the shopping cart remained at around RON 255 (EUR 56).

Card payments are the favourite payment method, whereas the payments in installments are becoming increasingly popular, accounting for 16% of the total transactions, Costin added. The largest online transaction was made with a card recorded in Hungary and exceeded RON 145,700 (EUR 31,955).

IT&C products account for almost 33% of the total online transactions. Romanians make most online purchases in November, March and December, said the PayU Romania CEO.
