Doctor Kasem Abu Bakr, who performed surgery on Romanian celebrities like Nicoleta Luciu and Laurette Atindehou, was arrested and detained for 24 hours for tax evasion. Payments received for breast implants did not appear in accounting, police sources told the press today (November 13 ).

According to the investigators, the doctor was receiving money for his services but he was not declaring all payments and thus dodged EUR 300,000 due in taxes. Also, during the research, investigators found several cases in which patients were allegedly "mutilated" by Doctor Kasem, according to the police.

Bucharest's Organized Crime Unit, supported by gendarmes, yesterday did four house searches, including the homes of Dr Abu Bakr Kasem and his accountant.
