Ploiesti Hippodrome is modernized but can’t be used
The tracks of the Ploiesti Hippodrome, which have been modernized with over EUR 13 million, are not officially approved and can’t be used for competitions, reports local Hotnews.ro.
They haven’t been approved because Romania doesn’t have specialized institutions to homologate racetracks.
The trot and gallop tracks of the hippodrome have been modernized and expanded within a project financed with money from EU funds and the local budget. The EU financing should have accounted for half of the entire amount. However, due to several delays, the city hall finally paid for 80% of the project’s value.
The project has been completed this summer, but can’t host national or international contests as long as it doesn’t have the official approval.
“We’ll need to find an approval solution, to appeal to a European institution,” said the Ploiesti mayor Adrian Dobre.
