PM: Romania can be a regional leader in cyber security due to the quality of its specialists

11 May 2015

Romania could be a regional leader in cyber security mainly due to the quality of the people working in this sector, said Prime Minister Victor Ponta at the opening of the cyber security summit in Bucharest.

“It is a great opportunity for Romania to develop the cyber security sector with the United States, the most advanced country in this field, and to prove that it can be a leader in this important area, at a regional level” said Ponta.

He added that Romania can be a leader because of its natural assets represented by “the ability of young people, of all those working in this field, to succeed in both public institutions and private companies, to be creative, to anticipate and be effective in such an open and yet so fragile world.”

Ponta said that the political, military and economic relations between Romania and the US depend on both countries’ ability to ensure communication, use of data and software technologies, and on their capacity to protect data and communications technology.

He noted that the Romania-US partnership pays a special attention to this sector, and this attention is welcomed and very much needed.
