Polish online retailer Agito will operate under Romanian brand eMAG
Polish online retailer Agito will operate under the Romanian brand eMAG starting today, said Iulian Stanciu, eMAG’s CEO.
Dante International, the Romanian company that owns the eMAG brand, became Agito’s only shareholder at the beginning of 2015. South-African investment fund Naspers, eMAG’s majority shareholder, had bought a 90% stake in Agito in 2012 with EUR 17.7 million.
“On September 27, agito.pl will become emag.pl,” said Stanciu, reports local Profit.ro.
“Acquiring the domain was a lengthy and expensive process because it was used by a research institute owned by the Polish state.”
He didn’t mention the amount paid for taking over the domain emag.pl.
Agito had sales of EUR 80 million in 2014. eMAG is also present in Bulgaria and Hungary. The retailer posted a turnover of over EUR 438 million in 2015, up 56% over 2014. In Romania, the business grew to EUR 382 million, up 36.4% year-on-year.
