Romania’s largest online retailer sees 65% more product searches this year
The number of searches on eMAG, the largest online retailer in Romania, grew by 65% this year compared to last year, reaching 235 million. Besides the top ten, the list of searches also includes funny terms or misspelled words.
Phone, TV set and kendama were the three most popular products searched on eMag, followed by laptop, vacuum cleaner, tires, Nike, watch, Samsung, and headphones.
However, some users also searched for bachelor’s degree, flea traps, subway ticket price, divorce lawyer, or The Voice of Romania 2017 registrations. These are unusual searches for an online retailer, as it’s quite impossible to find such products. People were more likely looking for answers than something they wanted to buy.
Meanwhile, some knew exactly what they were looking for. One user searched for “remote control for tractors that has lights automatic work with a push of a button,” while another one tried to find “ham for greedy cat with short and spiky fur that keeps its tail up.” Another user wanted to know “where can I buy a tubing installation to put on my house to have hot water from the sun.”
Others misspelled some words, especially those who were supposed to be in English, writing them as they sound. For example, one of the searches referred to the Chihuahua dog but was written caine ciu ua ua ua. Other searches in this category include frouzan (which should have been frozen), smartuaki (smartwatch), or empetrei (MP3).
