Price of Travel's Backpacker index lists Bucharest third cheapest city for tourists
A foreign tourist can visit Bucharest for the equivalent of USD 28.3 a day, which is slightly more expensive than Sofia in Bulgaria and Krakow in Poland, according to a study by Price of Travel, Backpacker Index 2011. “Bucharest doesn’t exactly have the best reputation among travelers, but it’s an interesting destination at the very least,” writes Price of Travel in its report.
However, what Bucharest might lack in polish, it makes up for with reasonable prices. budget travelers in particular will have far more good options than in most other cities to the north or west, according to the report.
The daily backpacker index for Sofia stays at USD 20.75, while for Krakow, USD 26.55. Budapest comes next after Bucharest, with USD 33.1 a day, followed by Istanbul, with an index of USD 35.7 a day.
