Prince Charles of Wales visits Transylvanian village Archita to see restoration works

20 May 2011

An American family of Romanian origins, Dan and Katherine Dimancescu (in first picture, right) have co-hosted the private visit of the Prince Charles of Wales, who has recently been to Romania. The Maria Nobrega Foundation, of which the Dimancescu couple are trustees has invited the Prince of Wales (in first picture, left) to the Transylvanian village of Archita, to see the restoration works undertaken by the foundation in the small Saxon-settled village.

In Archita, the Prince was welcomed by the president-founder of the Maria Nobrega Foundation, Elizabeth Nobrega Tsakiroglou, herself a descendant of the founding family of Brazil and a resident in London.

An intimate terrace-lunch for the Prince of Wales in Elizabeth Tsakiroglou's newly restored home followed an informal tour of the restored von Sternberg Church House. Michael Carrington, also a Foundation Trustee, the Dimancescu's, and Mr. Pietro Laureano, founder of the Traditional Knowledge Institute from Florence, Italy also attended the lunch.

The Prince of Wales, next in line for the British throne, has a long-standing interest in Romania and has visited the country regularly since his first visit in 1998. He owns several renovated guest houses in Transylvania, among which one in the village of Viscri.
