PRO TV owner sees strong business increase in Romania
Central European Media Enterprises (CME), the owner of the biggest local TV station, PRO TV, saw an annual increase of 4.8% in its net revenues in Romania in the first half of the year, according to the company’s report.
The group’s local revenues rose from USD 77.5 million to USD 81.2 million in the six months ended June 30. In the second quarter, the net revenues accelerated by 11.1%, to USD 48.9 million. Romania thus closed on the Czech Republic, which is CME’s biggest market, where the group had revenues of USD 50.9 million in the second quarter, down 2.3% year-on-year.
The group’s operating profit OIBDA in Romania surged by almost 73% to over USD 32.4 million in the first six months. Romania thus had the biggest contribution to the increase in the group’s operating profit, which reached USD 70.7 million.
CME owns in Romania several TV stations, including PRO TV, PRO TV Internațional, Acasa, PRO Cinema, Sport.ro, and MTV Romania. The local operations also include two TV stations in the Republic of Moldova, namely PRO TV Chisinau and Acasa.
At group level, CME’s revenues rose by 3.8% to USD 304.2 million in the first half of this year. The TV advertising revenues increased by 4%, mainly supported by the operations in Romania and Slovakia.
