Profi supermarkets in Romania, more profitable in 2015
Romanian retailer Profi, which currently owns 401 supermarkets in the country, recorded a net profit of EUR 11.6 million last year, almost double compared to 2014.
The turnover amounted to EUR 565 million, up 40% over the previous year, according to data from the Ministry of Finance.
2015 was the best year in the company’s history, and Profi owner, Polish investment fund Enterprise Investors, has been considering an exit. The fund has mandated Citi Corporate and Investment Banking to assess the market conditions and the possible scenarios for the company’s development.
Enterprise Investors acquired the retailer in 2009 for EUR 66 million.
Profi has almost 10,000 employees in Romania. The retailer plans investments of EUR 50 million for this year, with the aim of opening over 130 stores.
