Prosecutors seize EUR 670 mln goods from Bucharest District 1 mayor
Romania’s National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) Ploiesti has seized goods worth EUR 670 million belonging to the Bucharest District 1 Mayor Andrei Chiliman and three other associates who are charged with corruption, said one of the accused, Vlad Moisescu, former treasurer of National Liberal Party (PNL).
According to the prosecutors, Chiliman and three other associates used their influence to help some companies get public contracts from the District 1 City Hall in exchange for a fee of 10% to 15% of the contract value.
The prosecutors seized cars and real estate properties belonging to Chiliman and the other accused. The District 1 Mayor said he will challenge the decision, reports local Mediafax.
The prosecutors discovered during their searches from last week a document through which Moisescu’s mother-in-law borrowed his wife EUR 600 million. The investigators want to find out more about this transaction.
They said that the damages’ value could continue growing.
