Romania's ruling party calls for rally in support of its government

29 May 2018

Romania’s ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD) plans to organize a big rally in Bucharest to support its prime minister Viorica Dancila, sources within the party told News.ro.

The location of this meeting and other details will be decided this week when an official announcement will also come, according to the same sources.

PSD’s leadership discussed on May 21 about organizing a meeting to support its government and prime minister after abandoning a previous idea of a rally in support of the traditional family.

The iitiative to organize a rally to support prime minister Viorica Dancila comes after president Klaus Iohannis asked for her resignation twice due to foreign policy issues and poor economic results and liberal leader Ludovic Orban filed a criminal complaint against the PM accusing her of treason. The complaint is related to the Government’s position on moving Romania’s embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, an initiative supported by PSD leader Liviu Dragnea but not shared by Iohannis.

Local Stirileprotv.ro reported that the Bucharest Pride march, which is part of the Bucharest Pride Festival 2018, will also be organized on June 9.
