Senior ruling party in RO announces EUR 3.5 bln support package for firms and households
The Romanian authorities have initiated talks with the European Commission to have endorsed a comprehensive support package for households and firms with a budget of RON 17.3 bln (EUR 3.5 bln), the head of the senior ruling party PSD, Marcel Ciolacu, announced, quoted by G4media.ro.
The Government has discussed the structure of the package of economic and social measures aimed at mitigating the effects of the crisis on the economy and households, the Government's spokesperson Dan Carbunaru confirmed.
Out of the total budget, RON 7.3 bln will go to social measures, RON 5 bln to measures aimed at supporting companies hit by the effects of the war, and RON 5 bln will be used to top up the value of the contracts for public construction works, in line with the rising price of the construction materials.
As regards the social measures, they will specifically target low-income households, PSD president Ciolacu said.
The idea of distributing food vouchers to low-income households has been circulated.
Some measures will target the healthcare system as well.
