Public transport unionists to hold protest in Bucharest in a bid for legislation change
The Trade Union Federation of Transport and Public Services (ATU Romania) will stage a protest in Bucharest’s Constitutiei Square on Wednesday (September 18) from 13:00.
The unionists are calling for social legislative reforms, claiming the difficulty of negotiating collective labor contracts has seen salaries stuck at 2008 levels, according to Ion Radoi, president of the trade union federation, quoted by local news agency Mediafax.
The protest will take place the day after unionists from Bucharest's subway took part in a warning strike.
The public transport unionists have threatened to strike indefinitely from September 30 if their demands are not solved.
Earlier in July, employees of railway company CFR protested in Bucharest over poor wages and conditions.
