Raiffeisen gives free bike rides to clients in selected Romanian agencies

07 September 2011

Lender Raiffeisen Bank will offer its customers the possibility to rent bikes for free in some of its units in Bucharest, Iasi, Brasov, Cluj and Constanta, the bank has announced. The bank's clients will find these bikes in nine agencies, five of which in Bucharest: Bratianu, Piata Victoriei, Piata Presei, Sincai and Bucharest Corporate clients.

Raiffeisen also runs the 'I Love velo' bike sharing program, which has around 10,000 users a week. “One year and a half ago, when we launched the 'I love Velo' program in park, you wouldn't see too many bikers in the cities. Now, over 10,000 people ride our bikes every week. So we were successful. This is why we thought we should do another step towards promoting the bike as alternate means of transport in large cities and endowed our agencies with bikes, that we offer to our clients,” said Steven van Groningen, president of Raiffeisen Bank Romania.

In total, 1,100 bikes will be available in the free bike sharing outlets. Last year, a total of 200,000 Romanians chose to be bikers in their own cities.

The free bicycle rental program, which is the first and the biggest of its kind in Romania, is organized by Green Revolution Association, together with Raiffeisen Bank and The Ministry of Environment and Forests. Bikes can be rented only based on the ID or passport and can be used for up to two hours. You can reserve a bike online here (page in Romanian).
