Railway Company launches tender for Brasov - Sighisoara rail section
The Romanian Railway Company - CFR has launched the open tender to refurbish the railway section that connects Brasov and Sighisoara, two of the most popular touristic cities in Transylvania.
The contract’s value is estimated at almost RON 3.1 billion (EUR 690 million), VAT not included, the company announced on December 6. Some 85% of the financing is provided by the European Commission (EC), through the European Interconnection Mechanism. The rest of the costs are covered from the state budget.
The two railway sections, Brasov — Apata and Cata — Sighisoara, have a total length of 86 kilometers. Their refurbishment will contribute to promoting sustainable mobility on the following section: the Hungarian border - Curtici — Arad — Simeria — Sighisoara — Brasov. It will increase the transport speed to 160 km per hour and will reduce the transport duration.
