Railway traffic reaches 33 mln passengers in first six months
As many as 33 million passengers traveled by train during the first six years of the year in Romania, according to the Transport and Infrastructure Minister. The passenger railway traffic is expected to drop this year, after last year 70 million passengers used Romanian Railways (CFR) trains across Romania.
Most of the passengers in the first half of the year traveled on domestic routes, while only 164,000 chose international routes. The state-run company CFR transported 24 tonnes of freight in the first six months of the year, out of which only 2.98 tonnes on international routes.
There are 29 private railway freight operators and eight passenger railway transport operators registered in Romania, apart from the state-run CFR.
