Rare car collection of Romanian entrepreneur Tiriac gets 2,000 visitors over first weekend

The recently opened old and rare cars collection of Romanian businessman Ion Tiriac attracted around 2,000 visitors in its first weekend.

Located in Otopeni on the former site of Metro Cash & Carry, the collection includes 60 cars of 30 brands, including Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Rolls Royce, Cadillac, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maserati, Ford, Chevrolet, Harley Davidson and Indian Scout.

All the cars belong to the Romanian businessman, who has been a passionate car collector for years. His is only private collection in the world that features all the Rolls-Royce Phantoms made before 1972, including this Rolls Royce Phantom V (in picture).

On some 2,200 sqm, the collection can be seen Wednesday to Friday between 14:00 and 19:00, and Saturday to Sunday, between 10:00 and 19:00. An entry ticket costs RON 15, and revenues from selling tickets will be donated to charity, according to Tiriac Holding.

Ion Tiriac, a former tennis player, is one of Romania's richest entrepreneurs. Tiriac controls the car importers for Jaguar, Land Rover, Range Rover, Hyundai, and also sells Ford and Mercedes Benz through its Tiriac Auto centers in Romania. His holding runs real estate, insurance and car dealership businesses. He is also a minority shareholder in the UniCreedit Tiriac bank.

Tiriac gathered the rare cars after taking part in international bids, thus completing his 250-car collection, which includes brands such as Rolls Royce, Bentley, Mercedes, Morgan and Ferrari.

Tiriac was recently induced in the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
