Record-breaking attendance at EURO U21 Championship hosted by Romania and Georgia
The UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Georgia and Romania has shattered attendance records, becoming the most-watched EURO U21 edition to date.
A groundbreaking milestone was achieved during the quarter-final match between Georgia and Israel at the Paichadze Stadium in Tbilisi, where a record-breaking crowd of 44,338 spectators witnessed the action unfold.
This marked the largest attendance ever recorded for a men's EURO U21 finals match, surpassing the previous record set in Poland in 2017.
In total, an impressive 250,746 spectators have flocked to stadiums throughout the tournament, surpassing the previous record of 243,995 set four years ago.
Tbilisi, in particular, saw history in the making as the highest number of assists ever recorded in a EURO U21 final tournament occurred. The record was initially set during the Georgia vs. Belgium match, with 41,887 spectators in attendance.
Subsequently, the bar was raised even higher during the Georgia vs. Netherlands game, attracting 43,043 enthusiastic fans. The record was broken once again following the quarter-final clash.
Previously, the largest attendance for a men's EURO U21 match was during the 1996 final between Spain and Italy, where 35,500 spectators gathered at Olímpico de Montjuïc in Barcelona.
As for Romania, this year's edition saw its highest attendance during the Romania vs. Spain match, with 21,227 spectators present at the Steaua Stadium in Bucharest.
Unfortunately, Romania's U21 men lost twice and drew once throughout the competition and ended their run with zero goals. They lost 0-3 to Spain U21 in the opening game, followed by a 0-1 loss to Ukraine and a goalless draw to Croatia.
