Record traffic on Bucharest airports

01 August 2017

Bucharest’s two airports, Henri Coanda International Airport and Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, saw 20.5% increase in traffic in the first six months of this year. The two airports were transited by 5.92 million passengers and recorded 61,800 landings and takeoffs.

The Henri Coanda airport (Otopeni) accounted for the largest part of the traffic, with 5.91 million passengers and 55,700 landings and takeoffs during this period.

The total number of passengers on Bucharest’s airports could exceed 12 million this year. The growth pace is higher than the general trend at EU level.

Some 41 airlines operate on the Otopeni airport, transporting passengers to 152 destinations. The Bucharest National Airport Company (CNAB), founded in 2010, manages the two airports’ activity.

Most of the Romanian airports have seen a significant increase in traffic in the last years, due to the more intense activity of low-cost airlines.
