Republic of Moldova commune votes for union with Romania
Parcova, a commune in Edinet district, Republic of Moldova, voted a Declaration of Unification with Romania, according to Actiunea 2012 Unionist Platform.
“On behalf of the inhabitants of eastern Moldavia in general and of the citizens of Parcova and Fântâna Albă in particular, in the power of the historical right and the nation’s right, based on the principle that the people alone should decide their fate today and forever, the Local Council of Parcova commune, Edinet district, decides the unification with the mother country, Romania," reads the document adopted on January 23 by the commune’s mayor and councilors, local Mediafax reported.
The document was adopted one day before the Union Day, celebrated in Romania on January 24. On this day 159 years ago, the unification of the two Romanian principalities of Moldova and Țara Românească took place, also known as the “Small Union”.
2018 is also an important year for Romania because it marks 100 years since the Great Union of December 1, 1918.
