The stronger dollar ups electronics prices in Romania
Electronics will get more expensive in Romania starting end-April, due to the US dollar appreciation versus the local currency RON, retailers say.
The dollar has gained 12% on the RON since the beginning of this year and more than 25% in the last 12 months.
The electronics prices will increase by up to 15% and will particularly affect IT products imported from China, according to local retailer Flanco.
“The IT market will be most affected by the increasing exchange rate and could register a fall. The prices for notebooks, tablets, will increase by up to 15%. Other products with components made in China, such as the small appliances, will also be affected indirectly,” said Dragos Sirbu, CEO Flanco Retail, cited by local Mediafax.
Sirbu expects the local electro-IT market to increase by 10-12% this year and believes that the projected tax cuts will have a positive impact on consumption.
