Retailers Profi and Mega Image go after Romanian competitor
Profi and Mega Image, two of the largest supermarket chains in Romania, are interested in acquiring local retailer Succes, owned by the Romanian businessman Nicolae Sarcina, according to market sources, cited by local Ziarul Financiar.
Belgian Mega Image is after the ten Succes stores in Bucharest, where its expansion strategy has been focused in recent years.
Profi, which is owned by Polish investment fund Enterprise Investors, is interested to buy more Succes stores both in Bucharest and in the rest of the country.
Mega Image representatives denied the rumours. "There is no discussion or debate currently going on with the Succes group," says Adrian Nicolaescu, Mega Image marketing director.
Profi’s general manager Daniel Cirstea said the company is interested in further acquisitions, if they fit Profi’s expansion goals.
